Pathr Fleet · For charter and rental operators

Your whole fleet, on one chart.

Pathr Fleet shows charter and rental operators where every boat is, who is running late and what needs attention, with readings from each boat's own instruments.

Open the interactive demo

The demo runs a simulated fleet in your browser. No account needed.

The Pathr Fleet overview in the interactive demo: fleet counts across the top, every boat on the Pathr chart of San Diego Bay, four active alerts docked under the chart, and the returning rental Sea Lark open on the right with its compass, trip timeline and engine readings.
A crop of the demo's chart at 3:40 PM: Sea Lark returning on time, Tern overdue. Harborline Charters is fictional and simulated; the chart, the bay and every track are Pathr's.

Route dispatch

Plan a route, send it to the captain, track the trip.

Plan the trip on the Pathr chart, send it to the captain's Pathr app and follow it from the office. A tracker shows where a boat has been. Dispatch also shows where it is meant to go, and whether it is getting there.

Try it in the demo

Opens at 4:05 PM, with Osprey's 4:30 PM harbor tour waiting for a route.

  1. 01Plan it on the Pathr chart

Pick the boat, the captain and the booking, then draw the route or let Pathr routing draw it. Every leg is checked for that boat.

The planner in the demo: Osprey, a 22 ft rental, with Capt. Sam Park and the Ito family's 4:30 to 6:00 PM booking. The harbor tour runs from Harbor Island West Basin past downtown San Diego toward the Bay Bridge roadstead on the Pathr chart, each leg marked clear. Capt. Park's simulated phone has no routes assigned yet.
  2. 02The captain accepts it

The route arrives in the captain's Pathr app with the charter, the distance and the safety notes. Nothing starts until the captain accepts it.

The route sent to Capt. Sam Park: the office sees it sent, delivered and seen by the captain, waiting for an answer. On the simulated phone, the harbor tour to review, 9.6 nm for Osprey and the Ito family, with Decline and Accept route under the line that the captain stays in command.
  3. 03Track it from the office

Progress, ETA and the planned route against the actual track, live while the boat is under way.

4:40 PM, Osprey under way on the accepted route: 39% along, 3.8 of 9.6 nm, ETA 5:28 PM, 31 minutes before the 6:00 PM return, on the track line. The chart shows the accepted route and the actual track; the captain's phone shows the next stop, Bay Bridge Roadstead A-4.
The captain stays in command
A dispatched route is a plan for the captain to review, not an order to the boat. Navigation starts only after the captain accepts it, and dispatch never steers the boat or controls the autopilot.
Checked before it is sent
Every leg is checked against land, piers, charted depth and bridge clearance for that boat. A leg across land or a pier cannot be sent; other cautions go to the captain with the route.
In the demo today
In the demo, the captain's side runs on a simulated phone. The captain's screen comes to the Pathr app for pilot fleets.

What it solves

Fewer headaches, less downtime, lower operating costs.

Five problems that cost charter and rental operators time and money every season, and what Pathr Fleet does about each. Every one is live in the demo.

Know immediately when a rental is overdue.

When a boat misses its due-back time outside the return zone, it turns overdue on the board, the chart and in alerts, with how late it is and how far out. Nobody has to walk the dock to find out.

Tern's card on the Trips board at 3:40 PM: overdue 25 minutes, the Alvarez party of 5 on a rental, due 3:15 PM and stopped 3.5 nm out, at anchor at 0.1 kn, with fuel, start battery and water temperature, and the trip bar past its due-back time.

Review where a boat traveled after a customer returns.

Every trip keeps its track on the Pathr chart, with speed, engine and fuel along the way and every alert it raised. When a question comes up about a rental, the record answers it.

Skipjack's rental on the trip history chart after it docked at 4:55 PM: the track colored by speed from Harbor Island and the downtown anchorage out through the bay entrance, the critical alert where it crossed the rental area limit, and back.

Track engine hours without manual logbooks.

HelmLink reads the hours from each engine on the boat's own network, so every service interval counts down by itself. No clipboard at the fuel dock, and no service missed because a reading never got written down.

Halcyon's HelmLink telemetry, labelled simulated, from the Volvo Penta EVC gateway on NMEA 2000: the 500 hour engine service is due at 1,500.4 h, in 7.1 h, counted on the engine with the most hours. The port engine shows 1,493.3 hours, with coolant, oil pressure and alternator normal and no engine alarms.

Identify maintenance issues before the next charter.

A reading outside its normal band raises an alert with the trace behind it, and an open issue keeps the boat out of service until someone resolves it, so the next charter never goes out on a boat with a known problem.

Pelican's open issue in Maintenance: raw water impeller failed, high severity, in progress and keeping Pelican out of service. The engine coolant trace climbs past the 219°F critical line, where the engine overheating alert opened at 2:37 PM, before the engine was shut down.

Dispatch routes directly to captains.

Plan the trip on the Pathr chart, send it to the captain and follow it from the office. The plan, the captain's acceptance and the progress live in one place, with the captain in command throughout.

How it works

From the boat's own network to the office.

  1. On the boat

HelmLink connects to the NMEA 2000 network already on board and reads what is there. On Sea Lark, a 22 ft rental in the demo:

    Garmin GPS 24xd
    Position, speed and course
    Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2
    Depth
    Mercury SmartCraft gateway
RPM, coolant, oil pressure, engine hours, fuel rate, fuel level and battery
    Not on this boat
Heading, water temperature and a battery monitor, so those say Not equipped.
  2. Over the air

Units in the field upload their readings over Wi-Fi today. Every HelmLink will ship with a cellular modem, pilot units included, so boats can be tracked while they are under way.

    Under way
    every 15 s
    At the dock
    every 60 s
    Out of signal
The unit keeps recording and fills the gap when it reconnects.

Report intervals are the plan for cellular units, and what the demo simulates.

  3. In the office

Positions sit on the Pathr nautical chart, built from NOAA chart data with the same routing boaters use in the Pathr app. Alerts, trips and bookings, routes, maintenance and reports share one picture of the day.

    • Every reading shows its age; nothing claims to be live when it is not.
    • Acknowledging an alert records who and when, and never closes it early.
    • Pathr Fleet supports your team. It does not replace required marine safety equipment or emergency services.

Where things stand

A pilot program, said plainly.

Pathr Fleet is in a pilot program with a small number of operators. HelmLink units in the field upload over Wi-Fi today; every unit will ship with a cellular modem, pilot units included. Route dispatch runs in the demo now and comes to the captain's Pathr app for pilot fleets. The public demo is simulated; live mode shows real readings with the age of each one.
